That's Fence-tastic!

In a attempt to secure my little little's (aka the hounds, Charlotte and Hazel) from being nabbed by the local Latino teenage population, a fence was erected in their honor. It took the might (and gallons of sweat and a few choice words) of three (four if you count the disgruntled saw-zaw delivery man) people and a solid afternoon to complete. Not bad for about 60 ft of privacy fencing.

I went with a simple "dog-ear" white wood fence panel. Since this is simply my starter home, I didn't feel that it warranted the expenditure of a cedar fence. I have been told by several fence contractors that, if properly cared for (i.e. sealed every year, or every other year), a white wood fence can last up to 10 years. Not quite the lifespan of a 20-30 year cedar fence, but lord help me if I'm still living in my starter home 10 years from now.

Anyway, the panels proved to be a bit of a bear to maneuver. Probably should have enlisted a bit more help with the lifting, but what's a guy to do. A dad that just had surgery, a mom and step dad that are out of town. Thanks goodness for my best friend and her mom. Couldn't have done this without them. So here's a few more choice shots of the back yard.

So, as you can see, the two fence styles don't really match up, but in coloration, I think I'm fine. I wanted a bit of an open style for the driveway fence, so I can see when cars are parked in front of the garage. I'll keep the other 2 sides of fence simple so as to keep the yard from getting too crazy.

All in all, I'm completely satisfied with the look of the fence panels. Only time will tell if they will withstand the harsh Texas heat and the crazy weather we seem to have been having these past few years. I'm now focused on the future. I'm thinking next spring/summer I'll have the energy and funds to complete the 3rd installment of the fence 'a la Tedder'. Until next time. . .
