AH! Say it isn't so! But it is. Yellow, the most feared paint color in the history of paint colors, aside from the obvious missteps of the 80s and early 90s (i.e. peach, dusty blue, and mauve). And lest we forget the lovely "Walmart" of paint color combinations, hunter green and burgundy. UGH!
That's right folks, we're talking yellow. That sun-shiny color that can bring about a pleasant mood in anyone (now mind you the correct tone is key). I'm not speaking of a "burn my retina, school bus, yellow", but rather the calm and collected, subtle tones.
So, you may be asking yourselves, "Why bring up the topic?" Well, I've been perplexed by this color of a while now. My humble abode is blessed with north facing living room. That means that, at no point of the day, does it get direct sunlight. You might be thinking, great, grand, swell. But for a sun loving fool like me, I like a warmer feel to my interiors. The north light is cool and grey, as is my mood with this room. See what I'm talking about below:
So, in my stupidty, I thought, "Let's add some color to liven the place up." Why blue and grey entered my mind, I'll never know. BIG MISTAKE. Big, huge, ... grand.
So you, see, it is light, per say, but not bright. In an attempt to resolve this, I obsessed over another "perfect" color to bring this room out of the 'dark ages' and 'back into the light, Carol Ann.' After what seemed like 100 color swatches painted on varies walls in the room, I settled on these:

So, brighter. Right? Not really. I mean, they are a nice shade. But they are lacking in life. Beautiful tones, but they're just not doing it for me. So in an attempt to begin to find a solution, I give you the lovely yellow rooms, courtesy of Pinterest.
So, I'm thinkin' maybe. I've ordered a few color samples from Benjamin Moore. I'm going to wait to make my mind up until I can pin them up and see them in all lights of the day (which is my suggestion to anyone thinking of a major color change). I'll keep you all posted on my findings. Until then, happy color hunting!
